In December 2013, the Coalition Government consulted on increasing the fee payable to issue divorce proceedings from £410 to £750.

This week the Government  announced  in its response to a fees consultation that it will increase the fees for issuing divorce proceedings to £550. The Response states ‘We have carefully considered the concerns raised during the consultation and decided not to increase fees by 80% as originally proposed’. This  increases  the current fee by about a third.

Those on a low income may still be fee exempt.
