About the role
You will work closely with 1–2 experienced solicitors and gain hands-on experience across a wide range of emotionally and intellectually challenging areas, including:
- Public law care proceedings
- Private children disputes
- Child abduction, forced marriage and adoption cases
- Domestic abuse injunctions and child protection work
Your day-to-day responsibilities delegated to you by the solicitor with conduct of the case will include:
- Preparing bundles and court documents
- Drafting witness statements, correspondence, and instructions to experts
- Attending court and supporting clients
- Liaising with other parties in the case
- Analysing complex documents
- Liaising with clients, counsel, and professionals
- Legal aid funding administration
- As your experience grows, you’ll be given opportunities for greater responsibility.
What we are looking for
Essential Requirements:
- Strong academic qualifications to degree level
- Genuine interest in pursuing a legal career in children law, with a clear motivation to qualify as a solicitor
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice or working with vulnerable clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and persuasively
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and an ability to absorb large volumes of information
- Proactive, self-motivated and organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Emotionally intelligent and resilient, able to work empathetically with clients facing distressing or sensitive issues
- Collaborative team player, who contributes positively to team culture and supports colleagues
- Excellent time management and IT literacy
- Willingness to take on responsibility early and grow within the firm, including interest in applying for a training contract or qualifying via SQE
Desirable requirements:
- Previous paralegal or legal work experience
- Knowledge of Legal Aid Agency procedures and experience with CCMS (Client and Cost Management System)
- Interest in access to justice and the wider social impact of family law
- Understanding of common issues our clients may experience – domestic abuse, substance misuse or mental health challenges
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and an understanding of the importance of publicly funded legal work
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalised clients, in legal or non-legal contexts
- Completion (or part-completion) of SQE or LPC or a plan to take SQE exams whilst working full time
- Additional language skills
Essential Information:
Office – you will be based in our Head office in Whitechapel but may be asked to work in our Clapham Junction office. Start date, March 2026.
