We are delighted to welcome Cheryl Thompson, who joins the firm as Head of our expanding Private Client team.
Cheryl brings more than 20 years of private client experience, following an earlier career with HM Revenue & Customs, where she worked as an Inheritance Tax Technical Caseworker. Her unique background provides clients with an exceptional understanding of inheritance tax legislation and HMRC processes, enabling her to deliver practical, informed advice on even the most complex estates.
Expertise and Experience
Cheryl advises on the full spectrum of private client matters, including wills, estate planning, trusts, lasting powers of attorney, Court of Protection deputyship applications and estate administration. She acts for a diverse range of clients, from those with straightforward affairs to high-net-worth individuals and families with significant assets, business interests and international connections.
Her expertise includes the administration of complex and high-value estates, inheritance tax planning, deeds of variation, cross-border probate matters and applications involving non-domiciled individuals. She is particularly experienced in resolving challenging estate matters, including intestacies, disputed valuations and claims for Business Property Relief.
Cheryl also has extensive experience negotiating with HMRC and the District Valuation Office, regularly achieving favourable outcomes in complex inheritance tax matters. Her notable work includes securing 100% Business Property Relief on assets valued at more than £6 million and resolving complex intestacies involving heir tracing and DNA evidence.

Cheryl holds an LLB from the University of London and completed her Legal Practice Course at the University of Westminster. She is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, an Associate Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and a member of Lifetime Lawyers.
