Housing Solicitor
We are looking for a Housing Solicitor (one year+ PQE) to join our highly recommended and award winning Social Welfare Department.
About TV Edwards
TV Edwards LLP has been providing legal services for over 95 years and our story continues to evolve. Founded in the East End of London in 1929, we’re proud of our legacy, but even prouder of what we’re building today: a diverse, dynamic law firm that’s consistently recognised by Chambers UK, The Legal 500, and The Times Top 250 Law Firms.
Our culture is what sets us apart. We’re proud to have been named one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work for the second year running – a reflection of our supportive environment, commitment to wellbeing, and ongoing investment in our people.
With offices in Whitechapel and Clapham Junction, we serve both private and legal aid clients across a wide range of legal services. We prioritise supervision, training, and work-life balance because we believe excellent client service starts with happy, well-supported teams.
About the Social Welfare Department
The Social Welfare team undertakes housing, community care, public law and Court of Protection welfare work. Our ability to provide a holistic service to clients is a unique feature and one which many referrers and clients fully appreciate. Our staff are award-winning and highly recommended in the legal directories. We are a very friendly, supportive team and offer opportunities for professional growth.
Our housing solicitors act for tenants and occupiers in a range of possession claims, poor housing conditions cases, homelessness work and judicial reviews. We are regularly instructed to act for protected parties by litigation friends, including professional litigation friends, such as the Official Solicitor.
The department is primarily based at our office in Whitechapel, with a smaller team at Clapham Junction. Our department is split into teams with a ratio of one Paralegal/Trainee Solicitor supporting two-three Solicitors. Our reputation for good quality advice and representation in Housing Law has been recognised by Chambers and Partners (Band 2) and the Legal 500 (Band 3).
We have a strong commitment to the training of our staff. We deliver regular internal training courses for staff of all levels of experience. We meet as a department regularly to share knowledge, discuss case tactics and update on recent developments. At these meetings all members of the team are able to contribute to decisions in regards to the running of the department.
We have a Career Development Programme that maps out a route to partnership and we encourage staff to participate.
The Opportunity: Housing Solicitor
We are seeking to appoint a solicitor with at least one year of post-qualification experience who can represent our clients across a range of Housing work. There will be opportunities for you to work on community care, public law and Court of Protection cases (if you wish), but your primary role will be to conduct Housing cases.
You will need to share our passion for access to justice and have good knowledge of the legal aid scheme. Experience of privately-funded work would be welcome.
Currently we are unable to meet demand for our Housing work and you will be given the opportunity to grow and develop this area.
We are open to the successful candidate working from our Whitechapel or Clapham Junction offices.
