About Kerry

Kerry has extensive experience of providing advice on all aspects of the Mental Health Act to a high standard. She regularly represents clients at Mental Health Tribunal Hearings, before Hospital Manager panels and in professional meetings. She is able to provide assistance and support to clients detained under civil and forensic sections as well as those living in the community subject to compulsory treatment. Kerry has represented clients in medium and high security units including Broadmoor and Rampton Hospitals. She is regularly appointed to represent clients who lack capacity to appoint their own legal representative.

Kerry prides herself in representing some of the most vulnerable people in society and ensures that she offers a personalised approach to each client. She strives to fight for vulnerable clients so that they receive the best results. She puts communication with her clients at the centre of her work and she is skilled at building a rapport quickly. She keeps her clients fully informed of any developments in their case and will always take time to make sure they fully understand their position and their case. She is able to work effectively with her client’s and care professionals to ensure each case runs as efficiently as possible.

Kerry started her career as a paralegal in a newly established mental health department in November 2014. She was interested in mental health law after working as a support worker for adults and children with learning disabilities / mental health issues for over 4 years. This experience as a support worker gave her a passion to continue working with the most vulnerable in society and advocate on their behalf.

Kerry has experience in Criminal Defence, Extradition and Conveyancing. Despite working in these areas, she continued to represent clients in respect of mental health law matters and before Mental Health Tribunals. She became an accredited member of the Law Society Mental Health Panel whilst a trainee solicitor in November 2016 and qualified as a solicitor in September 2017.

Kerry is a vibrant and enthusiastic solicitor dedicated to representing those affected by mental health law matters. This passion and enthusiasm has extended to her becoming an actively involved Committee Member of the Mental Health Lawyers Association (MHLA) since November 2019. The MHLA is committed to the encouragement and maintenance of the highest standard of preparation, representation and practice in relation to mental health and mental capacity law.

Kerry has fundraised for numerous charities over the years but has a particular interest in access to justice and mental health charities. She has participated in the London Legal Walk and strives to continue to do so every year.
